Volunteerism
Etz Chaim’s distinctive ethos of volunteerism helps make our community a dynamic and vibrant one. A good example of volunteerism at Etz Chaim is the staffing of our religious school primarily by member volunteers. Together with the professional, office and part-time staff, Etz Chaim members supervise and perform the work of the congregation through standing committees that include:
Budget and Finance…oversees synagogue budget and financial status
Caring…assists congregants in times of need
Facilities…oversees the maintenance of the building and grounds
Library…staffs the library and oversees purchases for the collections
Lifelong Learning…develops learning programs for our adult congregants
Long Range Planning…develops recommendations regarding the future direction and needs of the congregation
Membership…communicates with all prospective and new members
Office and Communications…oversees office operation, staffing, space and equipment needs
Outreach...extends short-term personal services, on a one-on-one basis, to members of the congregation and to persons associated with members of the Congregation in order to support the desire of both Jewish and non-Jewish persons to be comfortable, knowledgeable, and involved with the Jewish religion or the Jewish community.
Ritual and Religious…sets policies for religious observances in the synagogue
Social Action…plans activities to engage the congregation in Tikkun Olam
Ways and Means…coordinates the congregation’s fund-raising efforts
Youth…oversees the Junior and Senior Youth Groups and college outreach
