Volunteerism and Other Etz Chaim Values
Etz Chaim’s distinctive ethos of volunteerism helps make our community a dynamic and vibrant one. A good example of volunteerism at Etz Chaim is the staffing of our religious school primarily by member volunteers. Together with the professional, office and part-time staff, Etz Chaim members supervise and perform the work of the congregation through standing committees that include:
- Adult Education…develops learning programs for our adult congregants
- Budget & Finance…oversees synagogue budget and financial status
- Caring…assists congregants in times of need
- Facilities…oversees the maintenance of the building and grounds
- Library…staffs the library and oversees purchases for the collections
- Long-Range Planning…develops recommendations regarding the future direction and needs of the congregation
- Membership…communicates with all prospective and new members
- Office/Personnel…oversees office operation, staffing, space and equipment needs
- Preschool…oversees preschool programs and policies
- Religious School…oversees Religious School programs
- Ritual & Religious…sets policies for religious observances in the synagogue
- Seniors…plans programs for the congregation’s senior members
- Social Action…plans activities to engage the congregation in Tikkun Olam
- Ways & Means…coordinates the congregation’s fund-raising efforts
- Youth…oversees the Junior and Senior Youth Groups and college outreach
Besides volunteerism, the congregation’s values include: Nurturing the highest ideals of Judaism through the study and observance of Torah, worship and social action; fostering a personal and communal Jewish identity through educational, cultural and social programs; providing a caring and comfortable environment for all members; and ensuring that all members can participate in activities regardless of financial means. |
