Second Grade

The main focus of second grade is an introduction to Torah through stories. Students discuss the holidays as they occur. This year is the real beginning of learning to read Hebrew.

 TORAH

This year the children will become acquainted with some of the narrative of Jewish history. They will focus on the stories of our Patriarchs and Matriarchs, continuing through the story of Moses. The class will learn the difference between Midrash and Torah.

We offer two options for families in second grade. A family education program is offered for those families who would like to study with their child. This class will have parents participating on a regular basis with their child. A schedule will be distributed on the first day of school. Parents must sign up in advance for the family class. The other class will be the traditional model, with parents participating in class only when we have special programs.

 PRAYER

The material will include a review of holiday blessings.

HEBREW

The students will master the Hebrew alphabet, begin decoding and learn basic vocabulary.
