President: Janet Widmaier
Janet Widmaier, our current president, is committed to preserving and strengthening the values that make Etz Chaim such a special place. Our congregational culture has long emphasized volunteerism, strong and warm communal ties, superior Jewish education for both children and adults, and community engagement through acts of Tikkun Olam ("repairing the world"). As a second-generation member of Etz Chaim who is now raising a third generation in our congregation, Jan treasures these qualities.
Jan grew up at Congregation Etz Chaim, and became a bat mitzvah, confirmed, and married in our Sanctuary. During the past decade, she has become increasingly active in synagogue affairs, teaching an 8th grade religious school class, serving as Sisterhood Vice President of Ritual and Religious, chairing the Retreat Committee and the committee that planned Rabbi Bob's 25th anniversary celebrations, and serving on the Adult Education Committee and as a member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee. Her professional background is as a labor and employment attorney.
Jan, her husband Uli, and their children Hannah and Leah live in Elmhurst.
